Hatirjheel Project

The Hatirjheel-Begunbari project was inaugurated on January 2, 2013 by the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Hatirjheel is a lakefront in Dhaka Bangladesh that was transformed into a transportation medium for minimizing traffic congestion. It is constructed mainly on the Low lying area between Airport Road/Sonargaon Hotel and Rampura Bridge/BTV Bhaban.

During the dry season, the Hatirjheel lake can hold approximately 3.06 billion liters of water, and during the rainy season about 4.81 billion liters of water. This makes Hatirjheel Lake the largest body of water inside the capital of Bangladesh.

The project, spread over 302 acres, which facilitates connectivity between eastern and western Dhaka. There are rooms for public recreation as well.

The total cost of creating the project included the money of RAJUK (Tk. 1,113.7 billion), LGED (Tk. 2,760 million) and WASA (Tk. 866.95 million).
